The Department of Health Sciences at the University of York is a leading centre for teaching and research in health, wellbeing, and care. We deliver high-quality, evidence-based education across undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programmes, preparing students for careers in nursing, midwifery, public health, and a range of health-related fields. Our research spans primary and secondary care, mental health, public health, social care, and health services, with a strong focus on improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities, and influencing policy and practice. The Student Services team is at the heart of the Department of Health Sciences student experience, providing responsive, inclusive, and accessible support throughout the student journey. Led by the Department’s Student Services Manager, the team is organised into three functional areas, each managed by a Deputy Student Services Manager:
This particular post will primarily work in the Placements, Allocations and Educational Technology portfolio of Student Services, and you will support the delivery of high-quality, responsive and student-centred administrative services Working under the leadership of the Student Services Manager and alongside the other Deputy Student Services Managers, you will work closely with the Practice Learning Link Team, our practice placement partners and pre-registration teaching colleagues to ensure a high-quality placement learning experience for our Nursing & Midwifery students and learners. You will have significant experience working within a professional practice placement, or student administration environment, ideally within higher education, healthcare education, or a related sector. You will bring strong management and people management skills, with experience of managing teams, managing operational workloads, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing working environment.
This is a varied and collaborative position, ideal for someone with comprehensive knowledge of practice placements, whilst demonstrating excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, capable of building positive working relationships, managing competing, complex priorities, and passionate about working with students. Day-to-day tasks may differ depending on the time of year and team priorities. The role is currently offered as a hybrid of remote and in-office work. The role-holder is expected to be flexible in supporting in-person events and on-campus activities within the role demands.
