Senior Lecturer in Primary Education - Primary Science Lead

Job description

Leeds Trinity University is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education to provide academic and professional leadership for primary science across its Initial Teacher Education portfolio. Based in the School of Education and Childhood, you will lead designated modules and contribute to programme leadership, curriculum development, teaching, assessment, quality assurance and enhancement across undergraduate and postgraduate provision. You will play a key role in securing an ambitious, coherent, inclusive and research-informed primary science curriculum across university-led and lead-partner routes to Qualified Teacher Status.

We are looking for an experienced primary education professional with Qualified Teacher Status, substantial experience of teaching and leading or developing science, and extensive current knowledge of primary science education. You will bring successful experience of module leadership, including coordinating teaching teams, assessment and moderation, evaluation and enhancement. You will also have experience of curriculum development and of mentoring, coaching or developing colleagues, tutors, school-based mentors and/or education professionals.

A relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional expertise is required, together with a strong understanding of current Initial Teacher Education requirements, the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework and the inspection context for ITE.

You will be an inclusive, collaborative and credible academic leader who can exercise sound judgement, influence stakeholders and lead improvement across organisational boundaries. You will develop productive partnerships with schools, trusts, teaching school hubs, subject associations and other professional organisations, and contribute to recruitment, retention and the wider strategic development of the School.

Alongside your teaching and leadership responsibilities, you will maintain an active profile in research and scholarship and/or knowledge exchange and professional practice, producing outputs and impact commensurate with a Grade 8 Senior Lecturer. You will be committed to helping trainees develop the knowledge, professional values, confidence and transferable skills required to become reflective, effective and inspiring teachers of primary science.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to either Dr Alison Griffiths or Jo Hopton, Deputy Head of School, Education and Childhood: A.Griffiths@leedstrinity.ac.uk / J.Hopton@leedstrinity.ac.uk

Please note, this post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
