Role purpose
To maintain a consistently clean, hygienic and safe working environment across the Future Manufacturing site. The Cleaning Operative will complete scheduled and responsive cleaning activities, maintain accurate digital records, and work in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), HACCP, applicable BRCGS requirements, COSHH controls and company health and safety procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Clean and maintain offices, toilets, canteen and welfare facilities to the required hygiene standard.
- Clean changing rooms, wash/sink areas and associated fixtures, fittings and touchpoints.
- Clean designated production areas using approved methods, equipment and chemicals, while protecting product, packaging and ingredients from contamination.
- Maintain external and outside areas, including entrances, walkways and waste-adjacent areas, so they remain clean, tidy and free from avoidable hazards.
- Complete routine, periodic, deep-clean and responsive cleaning tasks in line with the approved cleaning schedule and instructions.
- Use only approved cleaning chemicals and equipment, following product labels, COSHH assessments, dilution requirements and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prevent cross-contamination by following colour-coding, zoning, segregation and allergen-control requirements where applicable. • Complete digital cleaning records accurately and promptly on the company's internal system, including task completion, dates, times, exceptions and corrective actions.
- Report missed tasks, hygiene concerns, damage, pest evidence, spillages, contamination risks, unsafe conditions and stock shortages promptly to the Production Manager or other designated manager.
- Maintain cleaning equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition and store chemicals and equipment securely in designated locations.
- Support site inspections, audits and corrective actions relating to housekeeping, hygiene and cleaning standards.
- Manage waste in accordance with site procedures, including correct segregation, safe handling and disposal.
- Work cooperatively with production and other departments, planning cleaning activities to minimise operational disruption and food/product safety risk.
- Undertake any additional reasonable duties or tasks assigned by the Production Manager or another authorised manager, consistent with the needs of the business and the employees’ training and competence.
Compliance and safety requirements
- Follow all relevant company procedures, work instructions and hygiene rules, including GMP, HACCP and applicable BRCGS requirements.
- Comply with COSHH assessments and never mix chemicals unless specifically authorised by an approved procedure.
- Follow all health and safety controls, including signage, PPE, manual handling, slip and trip prevention, equipment safety and emergency arrangements.
- Stop work and immediately report any activity or condition that could present a risk to people, product safety, quality or the environment.
- Complete all required induction, food safety, allergen, chemical-handling, health and safety and task-specific training, and maintain competence for assigned duties.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and comply with site clothing, jewellery, illness-reporting and access control requirements.
Person specification
- Reliable, punctual and able to work consistently to cleaning schedules and defined standards.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions and complete digital records accurately.
- Good attention to detail, with the confidence to identify and report hygiene or safety concerns.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team in office, welfare, external and manufacturing environments.
- Previous experience in industrial, manufacturing or food/supplement-site cleaning is desirable; full role-specific training will be provided.
- Physically able to carry out the normal duties of the role safely, with reasonable adjustments considered where required.
Performance expectations
Performance will be assessed against completion of cleaning schedules, accuracy of digital records, housekeeping and hygiene standards, safe chemical use, compliance with procedures, audit findings, responsiveness to issues and overall reliability.
