Peer Support Officer

Hours: Full-time 34.5 hours per week over 5 days

Location: Hybrid working (a minimum of 40% working in the office in Leeds)

Salary: £30,812.94 - £34,011.72

Contract: Fixed Term for 12 months (with possibility of extension)

DBS: An enhanced check will be required

About the Role

Join our Peer Support team and help bring people together through shared lived experience, connection, and understanding. We are dedicated to providing supportive, high-quality, and person-centred services that empower people to live well with epilepsy.

Through our 1:1 peer support service, Talk and Support groups and online events, we create safe and welcoming spaces where people living with epilepsy can connect, share experiences, and access meaningful support.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Peer Support Officer.

At Epilepsy Action we recognise the power of collaboration and teamwork, so our team members with hybrid contracts can expect to work a minimum of 40% at our office in Leeds. On average this is 2 days a week, normally on Mondays and Thursdays, for full-time employees. The expectation to collaborate face-to-face is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do which may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to help us create a world without limits for people with epilepsy

Your Role

As a Peer Support Officer, you will play a key role within our Services team, helping to deliver compassionate, high-quality peer support for people living with epilepsy across the UK.

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:

  • Empower volunteers providing remote support and supervision to a dedicated team of volunteers and Independent Group Leaders, ensuring they feel confident, valued, and equipped in their roles.
  • Facilitate support sessions Support the delivery of virtual groups and online events. Creating safe, welcoming, and nurturing environments where people can share experiences and engage in meaningful discussions.
  • Support growth and development contribute to the development of our peer support services and help expand the reach and impact of our services.
  • Deliver meaningful support work directly with service users to ensure everyone accessing our services feels heard, connected, and supported throughout their journey with epilepsy.

What You Bring

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to be involved at the heart of service delivery. We are looking for someone who is:

  • A proactive problem solver with strong organisational and decision-making skills
  • Passionate about supporting and working collaboratively with volunteers
  • An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • A flexible and supportive team player, willing to work regular evenings as part of the role
  • Able to demonstrate genuine care for others and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality support services

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of working with and supporting volunteers , ideally in a remote setting
  • The ability to facilitate online peer support groups and events confidently and effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and work positively with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • The ability to adapt, prioritise, and thrive in a busy working environment
  • A professional and reliable approach to work, demonstrating honesty, conscientiousness, and self-motivation
  • A hardworking, caring, and driven attitude, with a genuine commitment to supporting others

Recruitment process: We believe that having an informal chat before the formal interview process allows us and you to have an open and honest conversation about the role, our organisation culture and what attracted you to apply. This is why as part of this process we will be inviting people to a 30 minute online chat with a member of our team before inviting shortlisted candidates to formal interview.

The recruitment process will include a panel interview and a presentation task.
