Are you an experienced driver with strong leadership skills and a natural ability to keep things running smoothly? Were looking for an Assistant Senior Driver to join our York transport team and play a key role in delivering an excellent service to our customers.
Working closely with the Senior Driver, youll support in overseeing our delivery operation and step into the Senior Driver role when required. You will assist the Senior Driver in helping to lead the team of drivers, supporting day-to-day operations and ensuring our high standards of service, communication and compliance are maintained.
About the role
This is a hands-on position where no two days are the same. You will assist the Senior Driver in helping to resolve issues quickly, keeping communication flowing and making sure our delivery operation runs efficiently.

What youll be responsible for
- Ensure all required vehicles checks are completed daily.
- Review drivers loading sheet to ensure sequence is reflective of all customer delivery requirements as detailed on the delivery instructions section of the invoice.
- Accountable to deliver all allocated deliveries in full and on time, where required you will need to complete an additional delivery run.
- Ensure communication is proactive at all times, if there is an issue relevant internal departments and work together to come up with a workable solution.
- Build strong working relationships with all customers and sales account managers.
- Ensure specific customer delivery requirements are met.
- Ensure all deliveries are checked with the customer and signed off in full, any issues report back to the relevant internal department.
- Adhere to all delivery procedures at all times.
- Ensure uniform and van are presentable at all times.
- Adhere to all required health & safety requirements.
- You are required to work flexibly and therefore when requested, you will be expected to undertake duties and responsibilities in our warehouse. Under these circumstances, the Warehouse Manager or in his absence the Assistant Warehouse Manager, will advise of the tasks that require your attention.
- Input your own routes in order on to the company route planning system, currently Elogii, for the next working day.
- Collect payments from customers as and when required, and issue receipts in accordance with the Companys policies. In the event of cash, you will be required to count and verify the value before leaving the customers premises.
- Assist the Senior Delivery Driver in tasks such as the onboarding and induction of new and agency drivers, daily briefings, guidance and ongoing performance support and ensure drivers complete required paperwork and follow company procedures and policies.

Youll ideally have:
- Strong leadership skills and the confidence to take command when required.
- Multi-drop experience is essential.
- The ability to carry wine cases weighing an average of 15kg.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to manage and resolve conflict professionally.
- A solution-driven approach to challenges.
- The ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to act quickly while maintaining high standards.
- A professional, reliable and positive approach to working with colleagues and customers.
- A full UK drivers licence with no more than six points.
- CPC licence desirable but not essential.
- Strong knowledge of the North road network and experience delivering into the service industry is vital.

Working pattern
40 hours per week, 7am 4pm Monday to Friday, with a 1-hour unpaid break.
