Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their potential?
St Giles Trust is looking for motivated and empathetic Building Futures Mentors to join our Education and Outreach team in Leeds. Working directly within secondary schools, you will provide one-to-one mentoring to young people in Years 8 to 10, helping them develop the skills, confidence and aspirations needed to succeed in education and beyond.
The Building Futures programme, funded by the Youth Futures Foundation (YFF), supports young people who may be at risk of disengaging from education and facing poorer long-term employment outcomes. Through trusted relationships and structured mentoring, you will play a vital role in helping young people recognise their strengths, overcome challenges and create positive plans for their future.
What You'll Be Doing
Delivering weekly one-to-one mentoring sessions to a caseload of young people.
Building trusted, positive relationships that help young people increase confidence, improve engagement and achieve personal goals.
Supporting young people to overcome barriers affecting attendance, behaviour and educational outcomes.
Using trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to empower young people and keep their voice at the centre of support.
Working closely with school staff, families and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Maintaining accurate records, case notes and programme data.
Contributing to programme monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement activities.
Upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and professional practice.
We're looking for someone who has:
Relevant lived and/or professional experience that enables them to connect with and understand young people facing challenges.
Experience delivering mentoring, support or guidance to young people.
Knowledge of the barriers and inequalities that can impact educational engagement and future opportunities.
An understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries and child protection practices.
Strong communication, relationship-building and active listening skills.
A compassionate, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload independently.
Digital confidence, including experience using Microsoft Office and electronic record systems.
What We Offer:
At St Giles Trust, we value lived experience, diversity and inclusion. You'll be part of a supportive team committed to empowering young people and creating lasting change in communities. You'll receive training, supervision and ongoing professional development to help you thrive in the role.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS Check with Children's Barred List clearance, which will be shared with the school setting.
If you are passionate about helping young people realise their potential and believe in the power of positive relationships to create lasting change, we'd love to hear from you.
Join us and help young people build brighter futures.
It is a fixed-term contract ending on 31/03/2028.
