Job Requirements/Description

Are you an experienced Behaviour Support Worker looking to take the next step in your career?

We are seeking a passionate and resilient Behaviour Support Worker Lead to join a specialist education setting that supports children and young people with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning whilst leading and supporting a dedicated team of behaviour support professionals.

About the Role

As Behaviour Support Worker Lead, you will be responsible for promoting positive behaviour strategies across the school, supporting pupils who may display behaviours that challenge, and acting as a role model for best practice. Working closely with teaching staff, therapists and senior leaders, you will help create a safe, nurturing environment where every young person can thrive.

You will also provide guidance, mentoring and day-to-day support to behaviour support staff, ensuring consistent implementation of behaviour management approaches across the provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of Behaviour Support Workers.
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, helping them regulate emotions and engage in learning.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging situations using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.
  • Support the implementation of individual behaviour support plans.
  • Work closely with teachers and wider professionals to meet pupil needs.
  • Monitor behaviour trends and contribute to strategies that improve outcomes.
  • Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive learning experiences at all times.
  • Act as a role model for professionalism, resilience and effective behaviour management.

About You

We would love to hear from candidates who have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour or additional needs.
  • Previous experience in a Behaviour Support Worker, Senior Support Worker, Residential Support Worker, Inclusion, Pastoral or Youth Work role.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience supporting or mentoring staff.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Confidence managing behaviours that challenge in a positive and therapeutic manner.
  • A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people achieve their potential.
