Department:

Yorkshire Water Tankering forms a key part of Lanes Group's wastewater and environmental services offering, providing specialist liquid waste management, tankering, jet-vac, and emergency response services across Northern England and Scotland. Operating from strategically located depots within the wider Lanes network, the division supports utility companies, industrial customers, local authorities, facilities management providers, and commercial businesses with both planned and reactive services.

The team utilises a fleet of high-performance vacuum tankers and jet vac units capable of handling hazardous and non-hazardous liquid waste, sludge, slurry, floodwater, and wastewater. Services range from routine tank emptying and interceptor cleaning through to large-scale emergency spill response and flood relief operations, delivered on a 24/7, 365-day basis.

Purpose of the role:

The Wastewater Tanker Planner is responsible for the effective planning, scheduling and coordination of wastewater tanker operations across a busy service area, ensuring the efficient deployment of drivers and vehicles to meet customer requirements and operational objectives. The role involves managing daily workloads, responding to urgent and reactive service demands, and liaising closely with operations managers, drivers, customers and field teams to ensure seamless service delivery.

Location: Leeds

Hours: 4 on 4 off shift pattern nights - 12 hours per shift

Hourly Rate: £36,000 per year

Overtime: Paid at time and a half over standard hours

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning and scheduling wastewater tanker operations across a busy service area
• Managing driver workloads and vehicle utilisation to maximise efficiency
• Responding to urgent and reactive customer requirements
• Coordinating directly with operations managers, drivers, customers, and field teams
• Monitoring job progress and making real-time adjustments when priorities change
• Supporting service level agreements (SLAs) and operational KPIs
• Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, utilisation, and customer service

Key Requirements

Skills & Experience:

• Previous scheduling, planning, or dispatch experience

Desirable:

• Experience within wastewater, drainage, utilities, transport, logistics, tanker operations, or field services
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• The ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment
• Confidence using scheduling and operational systems
• A customer-focused approach with a problem-solving mindset
