The Opportunity

A well-established transport and logistics business with over 20 years of industry experience is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead and develop its transport operation. As the company continues to grow its UK and European presence, this is an excellent opportunity to join the leadership team and play a key role in driving operational performance, compliance, and future growth.

Reporting directly to the Directors, you will take full responsibility for a fleet of 25 HGVs and 16 Escort Vehicles, ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient operation while leading a team of drivers and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

Transport Operations

• Manage the day-to-day transport function, ensuring high levels of service and operational efficiency.
• Oversee vehicle utilisation, route planning, and resource allocation.
• Develop and implement processes that support business growth and continuous improvement.
• Monitor KPIs and drive operational performance across the fleet.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and transport documentation.

Fleet Compliance & Maintenance

• Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence regulations and transport legislation.
• Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, servicing, and defect procedures.
• Lead transport audits and implement corrective actions where required.
• Monitor budgets and control transport-related costs.

Team Leadership

• Lead, motivate, and develop drivers and transport personnel.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management activities.
• Foster a positive, safety-focused culture across the operation.
• Coach and mentor team members to maximise performance and engagement.

Stakeholder Management

• Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve operational challenges.
• Provide regular operational reports and updates to Directors.
• Act as a professional ambassador for the business.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and hands-on Transport Manager with a proven track record of leading successful transport operations.

Essential Requirements

• Transport Manager CPC (National and/or International).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a Transport Manager role.
• Strong understanding of transport legislation, fleet compliance, and maintenance management.
• Experience managing drivers and transport teams within a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong stakeholder management abilities.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• HGV licence advantageous but not essential.
