At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.
Here at Pool Farm Vets, we are looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team on a part-time basis.
This role offers a salary of up to £75,000 DOE pro rata, alongside relocation support of up to £5,000 and a welcome bonus of up to £5,000, both pro rata for part-time hours.
Whether you are interested in a consultation-focused role or would like to further develop your surgical skills, we can shape the position around your interests. Our Medicine Certificate holder can provide support with medical cases, while our Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery can help you develop the skills and caseload required to work towards a certificate.
Whatever you’re looking for, there could be a role for you at Pool Farm Vets. We also undertake a small amount of equine work, so there may be opportunities to complete horse visits using the practice vehicle should this be of interest.

Working Pattern

  • 2 weekdays per week
  • 10-hour shifts
  • Normally a 1 in 4 on-call rota
  • Weekend on-call duties consist of Saturday morning consultations until 12:00pm, followed by inpatient care only where required
  • Emergency out-of-hours work is covered by Vets Now
We understand that everyone has commitments and priorities outside of work, and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to achieve the right balance between your career and home life.

About the Team and Culture

The practice has been family-run since 2004, and you’ll be joining a friendly, close-knit team of 3 Receptionists, 2 Student Veterinary Nurses, 5 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 1 Veterinary Care Assistant and 5 Veterinary Surgeons.
We have 3 certificate holders within the practice, helping us to deliver clinical care to a consistently high standard. We actively encourage and support CPD to ensure our colleagues can continue developing their skills and interests.
The team regularly enjoys ‘Pub Friday’, which moves to the local cricket club during the summer so everyone can enjoy the early evening sunshine.
We are based in Betley, a bustling rural village on the Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire border. Often described as a ‘chocolate-box’ village, Betley offers a welcoming community and an attractive countryside setting.
The village also benefits from excellent transport links and is only around 10 minutes from Crewe railway station, providing journeys of under 2 hours to London and approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to Edinburgh.
The nearby town of Nantwich is well known for its annual cheese show and jazz festival. Each August, our team also helps to organise a pet show at the annual Betley Show, and we remain closely involved in the wider event.
