We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Maintenance Craftsperson - Electrical to join our team in a mobile role, responsible for maintaining, inspecting and testing electrical systems across a diverse range of gas infrastructure sites owned and operated by Northern Gas Networks (NGN).

Our electrical assets range from standard lighting and power installations through to sophisticated standby and backup power systems, offering plenty of variety and technical challenge. Following the recent integration of our Maintenance and Capital Projects teams, this role also provides excellent opportunities to broaden your skills, gain exposure to project delivery activities, and work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple disciplines.

A full UK manual driving licence is a requirement for this role. As this is a mobile position supporting sites across our north east network, regular travel throughout the region will be required. In this role you will

  • Inspect, test, maintain and repair electrical systems across NGN operational sites
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective troubleshooting on a variety of electrical assets
  • Maintain standby power systems, including generators and backup equipment
  • Repair and replace electrical components, fittings and fixtures as required
  • Commission and recommission electrical equipment safely and efficiently
  • Accurately record inspections, test results and maintenance activities using company systems
  • Use mobile technology in the field to manage work and complete reports
  • Participate in a standby rota, undertake lone working, and support Gas Quality activities following training

We are looking for

  • A recognised electrical apprenticeship, including City & Guilds qualifications and an NVQ
  • A minimum qualification of BTEC or ONC in an Electrical discipline
  • Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Relevant operational experience within an electrical or industrial environment
  • Knowledge of relevant codes of practice, engineering instructions and safety requirements

Desirable

  • HNC in an Electrical discipline
  • Testing & Inspection qualification (2391 or equivalent)
  • COMPEX EX01, EX02, EX03 and EX04 certifications
  • EUSR Gas Passport
  • SCO 1, 2 and 4 competencies
  • EL6 Authorised Person sign-off and/or TEM 2, 4 and 5
  • Experience working on gas distribution systems
