Payroll Administrator

Reports to: Senior Payroll Coordinator

Role Overview

Ashcourt Group is looking for an organised and detail-focused Payroll Administrator to support the day-to-day running of the Group's payroll function. The role will involve assisting with weekly and monthly payroll processing for approximately 700 PAYE employees, alongside supporting the collation and processing of payments for around 200 subcontractors.

Working closely with the Senior Payroll Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide accurate and efficient payroll and HR administration support while handling sensitive employee and financial information with a high level of confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the accurate and timely processing of weekly and monthly payroll for approximately 700 PAYE employees.
  • Assist with collating and preparing fortnightly subcontractor payments for approximately 200 subcontractors.
  • Provide general payroll and HR administration support.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure employee information is kept up to date.
  • Assist with processing payroll information, including timesheets, hours worked and other relevant payroll data.
  • Respond professionally to payroll-related queries and support employees where required.
  • Ensure payroll information is handled confidentially and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support the wider payroll and HR team with administrative duties as required.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate should have:

  • Previous general administration experience.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong administrative and planning abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • A professional, courteous and polite manner.
  • Discretion and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

Knowledge of SAGE 50 Payroll would be advantageous, although it is not essential. A CIPP qualification and full driving licence are also listed as desirable within the existing role specification.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

As part of the role, the Payroll Administrator will be expected to:

  • Follow and adhere to company risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work and PPE requirements where applicable.
  • Comply with relevant legal and company health and safety requirements.
  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
  • Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations by providing relevant statements or evidence where required.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who is reliable, methodical and comfortable working with high volumes of information. Accuracy is particularly important within this role, as is the ability to work to payroll deadlines and maintain confidentiality.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, able to work effectively as part of a team while managing their own workload and priorities. Previous payroll experience would be beneficial, but candidates with strong administration skills and a willingness to develop within payroll would also be well suited to the position.
