Operational Planning Assistant

As an Operational Planning Assistant, you’ll coordinate maintenance, operational and project activity across substations in North East region, covering Selby, Hull, York and up to Middlesbrough with travel to sites as required. Working alongside Planning Engineers and operational teams, you’ll help maintain a rolling programme of work, align people and resources, and keep activity moving safely, efficiently and on time.

You’ll balance competing priorities, solve practical planning challenges and support work that keeps one of the UK’s most critical infrastructure networks operating reliably. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and managing a rolling work programme across multiple sites.
  • Balancing priorities with Operational Managers, Project Leads and delivery teams.
  • Combining activities to improve efficiency and make best use of resources.
  • Maintaining schedules and adapting plans as priorities change.
  • Coordinating third-party access requests and capturing activity accurately.
  • Supporting resource planning so work is ready for delivery.
  • Tracking progress, re-prioritising activities and escalating issues when needed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • NVQ L3 / ONC – Engineering or Business qualification or relevant experience.
  • Planning, scheduling, operations support or resource management experience.
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence using planning or scheduling systems to support decisions.
  • Clear communication and strong stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and strong attention to detail.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Pay and Benefits

  • A starting salary - £43,315 pa + company vehicle
  • 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days, 37 Hours - Monday to Friday.
  • Contributory pension scheme – Employee up to 6% - Company up to 12% - total up to 18%.
