SEMH Support
Veritas Education are working with a number of SEN settings within the Leeds area looking for SEMH and Behaviour support staff members. The schools are open to temporary and full time applicants for the role.
The School and Role:
The settings Veritas Education are working with support children from 4 to 19 years old, with a range of learning needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome and Asperger's, alongside challenging and at-risk behaviour.
The schools have fantastic facilities and provisions to cater to all needs, from sensory rooms, break out areas, and a specially designed timetable focusing on education, personal development and life skills.
The role of a SEMH support staff member is
- To help learners and young adults access their education, and support them in regulating their emotions and behaviour.
- Manage classroom expectations and implement distraction and de-escalation techniques for those learners struggling o manage or going into crisis.
- Be confident working on a one-to-one basis and within small group sessions, leading across both educational lessons and supporting across personal development and sensory activities.
- Show knowledge on the best way to support SEMH and SEN learners across varying age groups, be adaptable to work across different classes and build meaningful relationships with students.
- Be able to work across a large team of educational professionals, including support staff, teachers, healthcare, mental health specialist and SLT in creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
