We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in the Wakefield area that supports pupils with a range of complex learning difficulties, communication needs, autism, and associated additional needs. The school provides a nurturing, inclusive environment where every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, supporting their learning, development, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day. You will play a key role in helping students access education while promoting independence and confidence.

This role will involve personal care, so applicants must be comfortable supporting pupils with their day-to-day care needs in a respectful and dignified manner.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEN needs in the classroom
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Assisting with personal care where required
  • Supporting communication, social development, and emotional regulation
  • Working closely with teachers and other professionals to implement individual support plans
  • Creating a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children or adults with SEN, either in an education, care, support work, residential care, or healthcare setting
  • Comfortable undertaking personal care responsibilities
  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Right to work in the UK
